Restaurant Tycoon 2 builds well of resturant tycoon 1s mechanics. As with Restaurant Tycoon 1, **I would advise new players to start with RT3** as it is ultimately the most in-depth of the series, but truthfully, if RT3 hadn't existed, RT2 still built well enough off the first game to remain fun to play. The game does, however, have a bit of a repetitive "endgame" loop once you progress far enough, something I haven't experienced yet in its sequel.

Good game fun to play until you hit a certain point and cant really do much more with your restaurant but until you get your first one maxed the game is really fun and enjoyable, better than the first restaurant tycoon the first one the ai workers were really buggy.
